How did a fashion model/consultant find herself filling a need not met in what is known as the dimension stone industry? Especially when going eye-ball to eye-ball with a no-neck hard hat who had never heard of sawing logs to display wood grains, let alone my special block of stone —no matter if half of it “wasted.” The answer? Genetics. I grew up tagging along with my “mining” grandfather visiting his nepheline prospect. He promised me a “cloudstone” dining table slab when —make that if— I get married. Maybe I will have to contract to have it cut and polished, myself. My mother is a world class graphic designer with high end resort brochure clients in Fiji, Greece, Israel. In fact just about everyone in the family has a creative appreciation for design. Two years ago I needed to dress a store window with a classic piece of marble. Ouch! I had not realized that the “real stuff” was so difficult to find. Yes, there was a lot of marble dust polymer manufactured sinks and flooring about, and a dingy white from China available. And when it came to colors that said “I am a regal,” the shocking truth is I had a salesmen who almost suggested that his overly glossy gob of gunk would go very well with my velvet painting of Elvis. What’s a creative girl to do? Right. That is how I got into this business. I don’t want to sell you something out of an industrial park warehouse. I’m not the one to set the price per square foot. Perhaps I am not even a broker in that the process is this: A) Upon commission, and partial payment of a mutually agreeable finder’s fee, we will start sending sample swaths of patterns and colors closest to your request. B) Then contracting with the selected quarry owner/quarryman to deliver as promised, we will charge them a sellers finder’s fee, equal to the buyers. By contract the supplier is bound to supporting the set retail price of any unique marble we develop, for two years. C) Finally, send me an invitation to the dinner party introducing your newest piece of collectable art. So, start the dialog. It’s Barrissa@Marble-Botique.com.
